World Center Design for WTC Site
![]() |
The nations of the world are represented by the five outer towers and five observation decks - as are symbolized by the five Olympic rings. The six central buildings represent the six landmasses of the world. As drawn, these are each 1111 feet (340m) tall. The seven inner rings symbolize the seven continents of the world. The entire complex represents the worlds cultures, nations, religions, and ideas. The World Center is to be a symbol of peace, understanding, and a shrine to all people. The Central tower is a symbol and memorial to all that we are one people and one race with one united future and destiny. In option A an outer ring surrounds all towers, binding all the nations and peoples of the world together.
The rings stretch toward the central tower, at which point they connect via radial walkways to the central memorial tower, providing a spatial cartwheel configuration, allowing maximum light and space between all buildings. |
MemorialThe central tower, the highest man-made structure, serves as a memorial not only to 9/11, but as a symbol to future peace and global understanding.
It is planned that:
- Every country is invited to bless the World Center as a monument and symbol of peace and hope at this memorial.
- Every religion is invited to bless the World Center as a monument and symbol of peace and hope at this memorial.
Additionally there are memorial water and land features on each of the original WTC footprints - with small and large areas adjoining spaces for individuals and groups. Walls carry names of attack victims and messages of world peace from around the world.
The central tower is lit by a warm blue light shining upwards to the top most flag, and beyond.
Flag
It is planned that a flag of global hope and peace is flown atop the highest peak of the central, memorial tower.
This could be a flag of the dove.
Other flags may be mounted on the top of each of the five outer towers.
Safety
Because of the design, it is possible, in any event or emergency, to walk from any office level, either upwards or downwards to any ring lobby and from there to walk directly to any other of the six towers.
Therefore, if a fire or other event made any lower floor impassable, it will be possible to move upwards to any ring level (there are seven) and to the safety of any of the other five towers.
In the event of a plane crash, such as 9/11, occupants who survived the impact would all be able to evacuate using any of these paths.
Additionally the rings offer considerable structural strength to the towers, as well as providing redundant paths for water, power and communications.
The towers are spaced and physically arranged so as to minimise the damage that could be caused by any single impact.
It is envisaged that each of the five central observation deck rings is provided with a helium escape system.
Lifts
Because of the design it is possible to provide lift lobby concepts to all buildings., therefore saving greatly on lift floor space costs.
Additionally, any lift lobby (on the same floors as the connecting rings) can service any of the World Centers six towers.
Free Space
The design offers a considerable amount of space surrounding the central memorial tower and outer towers. This offers air and light in this design, providing a three dimensional space of Cathedral grandeur, viewed from within and outside the World Centre.
Hotel
A skew pyramid hotel is proposed on the north-western corner of the site. The shape is such that it provides a memorial base effect to the rest of the World Center.
Functionality
The ring lobby design makes it possible to use sections of the towers for a variety of purposes, such as residential, retail, office space, public use etc.
Outer Ring
In option A in addition to providing a unifying symbol, the World Centers optional outer ring is envisaged to provide a public space balcony and gardens in the heart of Lower Manhatten.
Observation Decks
There are five observation decks (in the form of rings consistent with the design) attached to the central tower.
The highest of these is at 135 floors, 1648 feet.
Colors, Ring Structure
The colors depicted are only proposed suggestions, as are the form, color and size of the rings.
WTC Footprints
WTC footprints are preserved as memorial water and land features between the three south-westerly of the World Center towers. It is envisaged that walls are constructed around the footprints, carrying the names of 9/11 and messages of world peace.
